Announcement of the ILCD+EPD Format v1.3 Release (Jan 22, 2026)

We are pleased to announce the release of ILCD+EPD Format version 1.3, marking an important milestone in the continued development of interoperable, machine‑readable Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This release further strengthens the ILCD+EPD data format as a stable and future‑oriented foundation for fully digital EPDs across the construction and manufacturing sectors. A key enhancement in version 1.3 is the completion of all data fields required to support EN 15804 and ISO 22057. As a result, fully EN 15804‑conformant Environmental Product Declarations can now be produced in a completely digital form, while the same datasets can also be used to generate BIM‑ready datasets in accordance with ISO 22057. This dual capability represents a major step forward for automation, data quality assurance, and scalability, enabling efficient EPD creation, verification, digital exchange, and reuse across platforms and downstream applications.

The ILCD+EPD format files, schemas, and versioned releases can be accessed at: https://github.com/InDataWG/ILCD-EPD-Data-Format

In parallel, the documentation landscape has been comprehensively consolidated and refined. Documentation for developers and other users has been merged into a single, coherent documentation set, significantly improving consistency, clarity, and usability. This consolidation reduces ambiguity, lowers implementation barriers, and greatly improves the overall user experience for software developers, database operators, program operators, LCA practitioners, and EPD users alike.

The unified documentation is publicly available at: https://indatawg.github.io/ILCD-EPD-Data-Format/doc/

ILCD+EPD Format v1.3 reinforces the shared vision of the InData Network to establish open‑source, trustworthy, and interoperable environmental data as a digital public infrastructure. By strengthening alignment with international standards and improving technical accessibility, this release supports scalable, data‑driven sustainability assessment, reporting, and digital integration.

Special thanks are extended to all members of the technical and editorial working group, who dedicated their expertise and significant portions of their free time to the development, refinement, and completion of this release. Their commitment and collaborative effort were essential to making ILCD+EPD Format v1.3 possible.
